Stone Walled By Ben Witherington

The old stone wall’s a miracle
Uneven rocks row on row
Without a bit of mortar
Yet each with a place to go.

How did the mason reckon it
So that the top would be on the level
Did he just suddenly start assembling
Or use a line and bevel?

And what faith he had whilst building
That malice or weather would forego
The temptation to topple it over
Tumbled all down in the snow.

It set me in mind of a Builder
Working with just mere flesh and bone
To put his Body together
When commonsense would leave it alone.

Each person’s uneven, irregular
No two are exactly the same
And yet in composing his Temple
He stamps each one with his name.

Without cement, or mortar
Only care in construction would do
Whenever your raising God’s household
Only love will serve as glue.

I slowly inspected the rock wall
And how large and small both alike
Had been piled apparently haphazard
Yet each bit rose up the same height.

I guess it’s a lesser miracle
Than the one more difficult to see
How a Builder joined us together
From now, ‘til eternity.

I decided to stop scrutinizing,
Criticizing its funny ole shape
And just celebrate the marvel
Of how the Rock repaired our landscape.

Leader, A Ladder

Hither and thither my sight did wander,
Then just clicked my sight a ladder,
A ladder which by its own strain,
Lifts to high others without a pain

THE LOVE FROM ABOVE

Plunged in darkness with no might,

Blinded in the inward sight,

Tangled in the Devil’s snare,

None to give a help or care.

Far from God and gone astray,

Foe of Him so far away,

Dropped down into sinful pit,

None to help a little bit.

Bawled in anguish and in fear,

None to aid or to be near,

Was the case of you and me,

If not the love of Calvary.

Flowed from cross the faithful love,

The love of God of heaven above,

In the cross He gave His life,

To grant you peace and eternal life.

Neither pains of life on earth,

Torture, distress , life nor death,

From this love will separate,

Or will make you desperate.

Brightens our path all the way,

Till reaching home far, far away!

Oh! The Calvary’s faithful love,

The love of God of heaven above.

LIGHT TO THE WORLD

Wise will it be to light a candle,

And this mode the dark to handle,

Not to curse at darkness’ sight,

But to lit a little light.

In the dark sea a boat when roam,

Knowing not the way back home,

A little light shone far away,

Will not guide it all the way .

The glowing lights that glitter in sky,

Will not guide it all the way?

What a change can make a light!

When the darkness bars our sight.

To this world with blinded sight,

Plunged in darkness with no might,

Shone this light of faithful love,

The light, the love of God above.

Came this love of Eternal Light,

To lighten all our inward sight,

To this world this alone the word,

Jesus the true light to the world.
