Holy Communion To Dogs!

Why Do I Have To Explain This?
Chuck Colson

imageHow do I respond to something that happened inside a church that was so blasphemous, so obviously-I can’t believe I’m using this word-idiotic? Especially since the people involved seem so nice, and their attitude towards "God’s creatures" is so warm and cuddly! Well, I will have to run the risk of upsetting nice people by simply telling the truth.

Here’s what happened. At St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Toronto, Donald Keith came forward for communion with his dog, Trapper, in tow. The priest, Marguerite Ray, gave communion to Keith. And then, in what she called a welcoming gesture, offered a communion wafer to Trapper. Trapper gladly accepted. The Toronto Star newspaper reports that the dog only sniffed at the communion wine, however.

Sperm Donor Kids are Struggling

It’s sad but not surprising—the children of sperm donors are having problems. The Commission on Parenthood’s Future has released a new study titled "My Daddy’s Name Is Donor," in which 485 adult offspring of sperm donors were surveyed.

Compared with both adopted children and children raised by their biological parents, donor offspring are struggling—and they’re struggling in ways that should have been foreseen.

The Twitter of Doom

image John Mark Reynolds: The Torrey Honors Institute

Plato warned that books posed a danger to his culture. Dead words would replace the living presence of a teacher and separate information from the informer.

His worries were not groundless. Changes in technology are good, but the way we do something can also impact the message. Though I could have listened on my iPod with greater convenience, yesterday I went to a theater and heard Bach’s funeral mass in B minor. Being there, sitting in that London hall, produced an authentic and intense experience that is not ear-buddable.

That’s Offensive

By Ron Graham

“Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.” 1 Peter 2:7-8.

“You can’t draw that, that’s offensive”. These were the words that a thirteen year old student in California heard a few days ago from her teacher. The student had drawn a picture of the American flag with the words “God bless America” inscribed on the flag. For this she was singled out and told her project was offensive. Then the teacher went on to praise another student who had drawn a picture of Obama. This is just a very small sampling of what’s happening across this nation.

Broken Genome Promises

image Identifying the Weak: Chuck Colson

Ten years ago, then-president Clinton told Americans that mapping the human genome would "revolutionize the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of most, if not all, human diseases."

But as the New York Times reported recently, a decade after the mapping of the human genome, the "genetic map [has yielded] few new cures."

The primary goal of the project-discovering the "genetic roots of common disease" and then finding cures-"remains elusive." In fact, the Times reports, "geneticists are almost back to square one in knowing where to look for the roots of common disease."

Let Us Make God In Our Image!

image Man is basically selfish. Though there are numerous philanthropists around the world, they are only an insignificant minority when one takes the total population into account. Thus one can safely say in  general that mankind is selfish.

Look at the way selfish people cut you off in traffic. Look at the way people try to jump queues, get unmerited favor, and get privileges that they do not deserve. Go to countries where public facilities do not match between the demand-supply chain and you will see selfishness on its peak. Look at the world. You will see hundreds of wars ethnic strifes and warlords who have only one aim — plunder the innocent and helpless.

Is This Not Typical Christian Hypocrisy?

image Yesterday “The Hindu” newspaper (June 24, Page 7, Kochi edition) reported that 6+2 lorries of Bibles were sent for recycling. All India Christian Council condemned this in strong words and asked the government to take action against it.

While even a single copy of a Bible readable condition should not be recycled, there is much more to the news than what meets the eye. Consider the following:

Partying Toward Extinction

image Peter Singer and Humanity: Chuck Colson

Ethicist Peter Singer has done it again. The Princeton professor, you may remember, is best known for creating controversy by treating such practices as infanticide, euthanasia and bestiality as morally neutral. Now he has an op-ed in the online New York Times titled "Should This Be the Last Generation?"

This time, Singer is considering the idea of not just getting rid of the elderly or the disabled, but total human extinction.

Anti-Semitism at End Times Level

Sadly, anti-Semitism is alive and well in 2010.  The recent incident with the Turkish ship bringing "humanitarian supplies" to the Palestinians has sparked a world-wide outcry of anti-Israeli sentiments.  President Obama and this current administration has been very clear in its’ support for the enemies of Israel, putting us on the wrong side of God.  The bottom line is that Israel has every right to defend itself from those who brazenly call for the destruction of the state of Israel and all of the Jewish people, just as we have the right to defend ourselves from those who seek our destruction..

Pornography and Moral Blindness

image No Christian and no decent person would ever endorse production and consumption of pornography or erotica. It simply goes against the command to flee fornication. The Lord Himself said,  in Matthew 5:28  "But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart". That ought to settle the issue for all of us, but some would still want to hear some more. And here is the additional news.

Bullying at Mount Si High and Christian Bystanders

                       Dr. Warren Throckmorton
image Columnist, Speaker, Professor of Psychology and Fellow for Psychology and Public Policy at Grove City College

Peggy Johnson’s son knows what it is like to be a friend. He also knows being a friend can hurt. Literally. According to a report in the Seattle Times, a fellow freshman friend of Johnson’s son was being harassed at Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie Valley, near Seattle. One night Johnson found her son texting his friend, "Just stay by me."

On November 6, during the school day, the two freshmen entered the boy’s locker room to change after P.E. Then taunting began, including anti-gay slurs and Johnson defied the bully. At that point, an older student assaulted Johnson’s son, leading to two broken teeth, a broken eye socket and a concussion.

Gay Is Okay: Polls Show Positive Media Portrayal Worked

image Truth Versus the Polls: Chuck Colson

According to a new survey by the Gallup organization, for the first time a majority of Americans-53 percent-believe that gay and lesbian relationships are morally acceptable. Only 43 percent of Americans call these relationships morally wrong.

This is a dramatic change from the beginning of the millennium. In 2001, only 40 percent of those surveyed called same-sex relationships "morally acceptable" while 53 percent called them "morally wrong."
